With great sorrow, I must share that we lost Fancy C.C. and her doe kid on April 8, 2020 due to complications with kidding, despite watching her day and night and a C-section. Cause was not able to be determined by UC Davis, but no infectious etiologies were identified and some serious diseases were ruled out, so that was a plus. C.C. was not only my herd queen, and my best doe, she was my heart favorite and my buddy. Her loss has left a huge hole in my heart as well as my herd in so many ways. I now cherish her successes from 2019 all the more…

I welcomed Elfin Acres B Josette to my herd shortly after she was bred in 2016. In the spring of 2017, after helping her deliver, I was impressed with her newborn doe kid, whom I named Jalena. As Jalena has grown and matured, she just keeps getting more beautiful. On a day to day basis, it is a pleasure to get to see Jalena as I appreciate her style and beauty.

As a 2 year old she did well in the show ring in large classes, winning once and placing top 4 at seven of 9 shows. (2019)
All our shows were cancelled in 2020. Milking 21 does was not manageable for me so I made the decision to dry up the mature does who had already earned milk stars, including Jalena just 62 days after kidding, to lighten my load. With the shows still shut down going into 2021, it was a repeat. Unfortunately that meant that when a few shows were allowed later in 2021, she was dry so she did not get to go back into the show ring.

However, her daughters that I have retained have carried on the success in the show ring. Her 2019 daughter (by Alethia SHH Gunsmoke N Lace,) Sonview Ranch Lena had a very good show season as a kid, including placing 15th in a huge class at the 2019 ADGA National show and went on to win Champion them Best in Show for her new owner up in Oregon. Jalena’s 2018 daughter (by Alethia DOH Cosmic Wonder,) Sonview Ranch Delightful Dale went Champion as a dry yearling then shocked me by winning Best Jr in Show. She finally got a chance to get into the show ring as a milker in 2021 and she did us proud. She finished her championship in short order and was awarded Best Doe in Show in outstanding competition at her last show! Delightful Dale is not only beautiful and correct, she can put the milk into the pail. She produced 934 lb of milk, 61 lb of fat and 40 lb of protein as a first freshening yearling.

Twin Pears Jalena is not just a pretty face, but she has out produced herself in her daughters.

note: in 2020, with all shows and linear appraisal cancelled, it was not worth it to me to keep milking 21 does twice a day, so I dried up some of my does who had already earned their milk stars, including Jalena. Unfortunately, I did not manage Jalena as well as I should have and she got fat, very fat. After she kidded last year, I decided I should dry her up so that I could help her get back to a healthy weight, so once again she only had a short time in milk.

Lemmy is one of those does who is such a pleasure to have around. She is calm, cooperative and is a solid performer in all areas.

She is a strong contender in the show ring. Last year, as a 2 year old, she won her class at 2 shows and was top 5 in highly competitive California classes at 6 of her 7 shows.

On her first milk test this year, she produced 4.0 lb when 15 days fresh

She continues to improve in all areas as she is maturing so the future looks bright for this little doe.

Nikita’s grand dam, Sonview Ranch Delightful Dale, finally got to enter the show ring as a milker in 2021. While she had done well as a junior, winning Champion then Best Jr in Show at her last show, she outdid herself when she finally got to show as a milker finishing her permanent championship in short order. She had a stellar show season, even winning Best Doe in Show and is now GCH Sonview Ranch Delightful Dale (pending ADGA) She was appraised on 5/31/21, scoring VEVE 89 as a 2nd freshening 3 year old, with 33 in dairyness, 33 in rump angle, 34 in fore udder attachment and 36 in rear udder height! She is also turning out to be a good little milker, producing 934 lb with 61 lb fat and 40 lb protein as a first freshener when I was able to give her the full 305 days and 811 lb with 56 lb fat and 34 lb protein in only 258 days on milk test last year.

Tribute had a strong show season as a junior, going Reserve Champion at a big show then topping it off by being 10th place in the huge intermediate kid class at the 2019 ADGA National Show! Entering the show ring for the first time as a milker in 2021, she won a large 2 year old class under the first judge. She appraised VVEV 88 as a 2 year old in May 2021, with 31 in rump angle, 31 in rump width, 33 in foreudder attachment and 36 in rear udder height, plus E in rear legs and back.

Besides being sweet as can be, Nakita is a pretty, dairy little doe with so much promise and many years ahead of her.

I sold Emily as a dry yearling back in 2015. Unexpectedly, in June 2020 the opportunity presented so I brought her back home again. While she is obviously not a show doe, I believe in the genetics behind her. I am excited to have her in my breeding program, with real hopes that she can pass on her good traits to her daughters and her faults can be improved upon by the bucks she will be bred to.

In trying to get my herd to a more manageable size, I sold Elsa in Oct 2018. She had a beautiful doe kid for her new owner in 2019. I was given the chance to buy Elsa back in Oct 2019. We were unable to get her bred in 2019 but I am hopeful that she will settle for me this year and I really hope for a doe kid from her to carry on the outstanding heritage of her Castle Rock lines.

I jumped at the chance to buy Mirage as a bottle baby back in 2018. What an amazing pedigree he has! Both his sire and dam are animals to be admired. He is a grandson of the fabulous, multi-champion producing Guy Noir & Tuscan Sun, the dam of the current National Champion, who also had best udder. As if that is not enough, he is also the grandson of Cleveland Sage, the sire of the current National Champion, (along with several other champion daughters, including one who appraised 92, and two others who appraised 91 so far) Not only does he come from proven stock that excels in the show ring and scores well on Linear Appraisal, these lines also have good milk production.

Mirage himself was just appraised 5/31/21, scoring VVE 88. I have 3 of his daughters in milk. Litzy is 2 years old and appraised VEVV 88 (We would like to see better teat placement on her but she inherited that from her dam, otherwise her udder is Oh SO NICE.) Mirage’s yearling daughter, My Valentine, scored +VVA 83, with a fore udder score of 34, compared to her dam’s fore udder score of 28. His other yearling daughter, Martina, appraised the highest of my 8 first fresheners, scoring VEVV 86.

I am keeping 5 of his daughters as I make him available to a new herd.
