With intense sorrow, I must share that we lost Fancy C.C. and her doe kid on April 8, 2020, despite watching her day and night and a C-section. The C-section revealed that something had gone terribly wrong with her uterus, to the point that it could not hold sutures to be closed back up after the surgery. Cause was not able to be determined by UC Davis, but no infectious etiologies were identified and some serious diseases were ruled out, so that was a plus.
C.C. was not only my herd queen, and my best doe in every way, she was my heart favorite and my buddy. Her loss has left a huge hole in my heart, as well as my herd, in so many ways. I now cherish her successes from 2019 all the more and am so grateful that she got a chance to shine at the National Show before I so unexpectedly lost her.

When she was born back in 2014, I never could have imagined that Emmy would turn out to be a stand out total performer! Not only is she the sweetest, most compliant goat I have ever had, but she has excelled at everything she has done; winning her way to become a permanent Champion early on, earning her Superior Genetics once she got a chance to be on milk test, scoring VEEE 90 at 7 years of age, and as an 8 year old, with no special treatment or supplements, milking 1187 lb with 93 lb of butterfat and 48 lb of protein in 2022, in addition to being a wonderful producer of quality doe kids all through the years!
Spring 2023: Emmy has been retired and there will be no more kids from Emmy. I have no idea how it happened, but the morning of 3/24/23, she was 3 legged lame, holding up her right hind. Later, x-rays & tests at UC Davis resulted in a diagnosis of a cruciate ligament rupture in the right hind, but also osteoarthritis in that leg, and osteoarthritis in her left front as well. Very sad and so unexpected. She is on daily pain meds to keep her comfortable and is living the pampered life now.
On Nov 17, 2023, I took her back to UC Davis once again, because she was in pain even on the highest dose of the pain meds. I wanted more x-rays/tests to see if there was any hope of helping her. It was not good news. Everything in me wanted to hold on to my special, sweet friend, but there was no way to fix the damage, she was suffering despite increased, daily pain meds, the winter would be brutal to her and the worst yet was that she had lost her place as queen of the herd so other does were pushing her away from the feeders and out of the shed. I poured out my love and appreciation to her through her last breath. I fully realize how rare she was and how blessed I was to call her mine and have her love me back. Good bye my sweet Emmy and thank you for everything.

I saw potential in Dale when she was a kid, so she was my keeper kid from the litter but she did not make my show string that year. I did take her to one show, at the end of the season, where she was 3rd under one judge and 5th under the other. In 2019, she was a young dry yearling and again, she was not one I chose to be part of my show string, while herd mates got to go shine at the ADGA National Show. I liked how she was maturing later in the year as a dry yearling so I decided to show her at the end of the 2019 show season under 2 judges and was pleased when one judge placed her first in her class, then shocked when she was chosen Best in Show Jr!
Dale freshened as a 2 year old, with a very nice udder and was maturing beautifully, so it was extra disappointing when all our 2020 shows and the first half of the 2021 shows were cancelled. She excelled as a first freshener at home though, milking 934 lb with 61 lb of fat and 40 lb of protein in the 305 days for her first lactation.
She did not get to make her show ring debut as a milker until later in 2021, as a 2nd freshening 3 year old. How encouraging it was when she was Res Champion under one judge in the top notch competition at the REDGA show! Then in quick order, she won Champion at the next couple shows, and to top it off in grand style, she was awarded Best in Show at the last show of the season!
At the 2024 California State Fair, Dale really had it all together. She was named Champion, Best Udder of Breed and then Total Performer! She was the driving force in group classes, as part of our 1st place Produce of Dam, 1st place Dam & daughter, 1st place Dairy herd, as well as Best 3 Females (Dale, Lainey, Neevia)
Next at the higly competitive Sonoma County Fair, Sonview Ranch again won Best 3 females, this time with Dale, her full younger sister, Singular Delight and her paternal sister, Lamia.
Next up was our last show of the year, the Mendocino County Fair. Dale won her class and was 1st place udder then she was awarded Res Champion and Res Best Udder of breed. Sonview Ranch again won Best 3 Females, with Dale, her full younger sister, Singular Delight and Dale’s paternal sister, Lamia. It was so encouraging this year to win the breeder’s classes, at multiple shows, with different does, as it says to me that I am on the right track and making progress in breeding a better Nigerian Dward Dairy Doe.

Nazira had a good show season as a junior kid. As a yearling milker in 2022, she was 21 days fresh at her first show so it was a good practice run for her with her placing in the middle of large classes amidst excellent competition. She finished her show season by winning her class at the next 2 shows. I see a lot of promise in this young doe and look forward to getting to watch her mature.

Being born in 2020, meant that Martina did not get to step into the show ring as a kid. Starting her show career as a yearling milker when a few shows started back up later in 2021, went great as she won her class 3 times and was 2nd place once in the 4 times she was shown. With her bold and outgoing personality, she enjoys getting out and showing.
In 2022, the shows were back in full swing and Martina was ready. Martina was our star standout in 2022 even though she was only a 2 year old! Under 12 judges, she won her class 6 times and was never lower than 4th under any judge. She came oh-so-close to finishing her championship, winning Champion 2x and Res Champion 2x in stiff competiton that had me excited to get to show her at the 2023 ADGA National Show. She did not disappoint, making the cut at Nationals and placing 17th.

I was fortunate enough to buy Tiffany in April 2019. She moved in and fit into my herd like she had lived here all her life. She is a pleasure to have around, in every way.
At her first show with me, she went Reserve Champion to a finished Champion. At her next show, she went Champion. She then went Reserve Champion again at our last show of the year. I was really looking forward to showing her in 2020 in hopes that she would be able to finish her championship, but all our shows were cancelled for the year and half way through 2021. At a show in Sept 2021, Tiffany again won her class and went on to be named Champion to become a permanent champion (pending ADGA processing and updating records) but then, to my amazement, Tiffany was chosen Best Doe in Show! On top of that, despite traveling to shows and being 7 years old in 2021, she milked 1154 lb with 60 lb of fat and 49 lb of protein in 305 on test. I have only shown her a couple times since then but she did well each time, winning Reserve Champion both times, and being awarded Best Udder at her only show in 2022. This doe does it all and she is truly a pleasure to have around too!
Being on milk test has been wonderful, surprising and very helpful. I wish I had been able to start my herd on milk test years earlier than I was able to. That being said, the black and white data on milk test records do not tell the whole story and Tiffany is a case in point. People will look at her numbers from 2021 and maybe give her a nod, but then look down on the significant drop in her numbers from 2022. What is not reflected in those numbers for 2022 is the fact that she only had a single and was not being fed grain! Yes, I gave her a dribble of grain for jumping up on the milking stanchion twice a day, but other than that token reward, she was not fed grain. In my opinion, her production of 832 lb of milk with 49 lb of butter fat and 36 lb of protein is quite commendable for an 8 year old doe being fed only alfalfa with some grass hay. I think she qualifies as a Nigerian Dwarf Dairy doe.

It has been worth the wait to see this doe come into her own. As a 3 year old in 2022, she finally started to show off the good qualities she inherited from both her sire and her dam. Back in 2018, when I chose to breed my outstanding GCH Sonview Ranch Fancy C.C. to Twincreeks RM Watermark, I had high hopes for the kids that would be born. Little did I know that those kids would be the last I would get from my Fancy C.C., making Lainey the last daughter, and the only daughter, I have from C.C.
Lainey did well all the way around in 2022, placing in the top of her classes under many judges, including winning big classes at 2 different shows with intense competition, and despite a busy show season full of travel, she continued to milk well, producing 980 lb of milk.
2024 is the year that Lainey has put it all together as she continues to mature. She went Champion at her first show this year, then Res Champion to herdmate, Sonview Ranch Neevia under the next judge.

Lamia is a very dairy doe. In limited showing as a kid, she was unbeaten. As a milker, she has held her own in the show ring despite the amazing competition here in California, placing in the top 5 more than half the time and even winning her class at one show. As a first freshening 2 year old in 2021, she scored 32 in dairyness, 31 in rump angle, 32 in rear udder height, 35 in medial suspensory ligament, 29 in teat placement and 35 in teat length. Her udder has many of the qualities that I have been working to improve in my herd. Slow to mature, she is looking better each year now.
Lamia was awarded Best Udder of breed at her first show of 2024. Amazing considering the competition. Next at the prestigious REDGA Memorial Doe Show, she was named Champion, so she is now a permanent Champion (pending ADGA updating and inputting records.)

To be blunt, Mitzy only got to stay in my herd as a kid because of her udder potential. She was a first freshening 2 year old in 2022 and traveling to her first show as a milker really stressed her out! Although she did not fill her udder, it was exciting when she was placed 3rd out of 27 under both judges in stellar competition. She was even placed ahead of her herd mate, Sonview Ranch Martina, which was quite a surprise to me. I hope she enjoyed standing in front of Martina because in the rest of the shows, she was behind Martina, in fact at 4 of the following shows, Martina won the class and Mitzy was 2nd right behind her. Can’t complain about that!

Tribute is an interesting doe to show. She and her twin sister often traded off beating each other in the show ring as kids. Tribute did well the many times she was shown as a kid in 2019, but of course the most exciting was when she made the cut in the huge class and placed Top Ten at the 2019 ADGA National Show (with her twin sister placing 12th and our other Sonview Ranch doe kid placing 15th in that class.) Things got even more interesting when she hit the show ring as a milker. Under 12 judges in the last 2 years of being shown as a milker, she was either at the top of her class or way down the line. Judges either really like her or they don’t. She has won multiple huge classes in Amazing competition and then in the next ring she has placed 8th or 9th…Personally, I really like her, as long as I don’t let her get overconditioned, as she has many really good qualities.

This doe kid brought such happiness with her birth, thus her name – Sheer Bliss. She is the first doe kid I have gotten from my very special, much loved Poppy Patch HB Tiffany 6*M EEEV 90. Naturally, I have high hopes for her (and her twin sister, Extra Blessing!)
I only got to take Bliss & Blessing to 2 shows as kids. At the first show, Bliss was 2nd in the large class right behind her twin sister, Blessing, who won that class. At the next show, Bliss won with Blessing standing 2nd in the class. Exciting either way!
It was disappointing when Bliss did not settle when first bred as a kid, but she got to go to a few shows as a dry yearling the next year. She was 6th in her class at the first show, 3rd under the next judge, 3rd at the next show and then 4th in a big class at another show. She ended her show season on a high note by winning her class at the last show of the season.

Delight is one of those doe kids who got to stay based on her pedigree and I am hoping she matures to her potential. She was not picked for my show string as a kid nor as a dry yearling, but hopefully she will freshen with the beautiful udder I expect and continue to improve in all areas of the scorecard.
2024 update: I am pleased to report that Delight is outgrowing her ugly duckling stage and now as a 2nd freshening 3 year old is looking like a decent dairy doe. At the last show of 2023, she won her class, which was a nice surprise. So far, in 2024, she has been 11th, 6th, 3rd, 6th, 3rd, 3rd and 2nd in strong classes. I expect her to just keep getting better…

Champion Jr at 3 months old
Res Champion Jr (to her paternal sister)
Praise was my top pick out of all my 2022 doe kids. At her very first show, at 3 months old, she was 2nd to her herdmate in the first ring but won her class in ring 2 and was named Champion Jr!

Champion at 5 months old
Res Champion twice to 2 different herdmates
Prize is a doe kid that I offered for sale. When no one had chosen her after 5 months, I opted to keep her, clipped her and took her to the next show. In the first ring, she went 2nd to Posy, another doe kid that had been for sale that I ended up keeping. Posy went Champion Jr under that judge. In the next ring, Prize won the class and was named Res Champion when her paternal sister, Neevia, a dry yearling, was named Champion. Under the third judge, Prize again won the class and was again Res Champion, but this time to a different herdmate. At the next show, she was 2nd in her class when a different herdmate won. At her last show, she won the class and went on to be awarded Champion Jr! The icing on the cake was when her paternal sister, Praise, was then named Res Champion Jr!

Champion Jr at 4 months old
Paragon did very well in the show ring as a kid, placing 1st or 2nd under 8 of the 10 judges, in classes with great competition, and winning Champion at her last show as a kid!
I will be the first to admit that she is a bit of an ugly duckling as a yearling, but she does look better in person than she does in the photo.
Some will be put off by her low linear appraisal score, even knowing that the scoring system was been changed, which effectively has lowered yearling first freshener scores. I am not worried about it though, as I know that her dam’s line tends to be very slow to mature and blossom. Personally, I consider her dam to have gone from an ugly duckling to a swan (GCH Sonview Ranch Delightful Dale, 2x Best in Show, VEEE 91 at 5 years of age, 3rd place at the 2023 ADGA National Show) and Paragon’s maternal aunt is following in those same footsteps as she is just now starting to outgrow her ugly duckling stage. I know that I have to be paitent, as it may take another 2 years before I get to see what Paragon really looks like.
